Great experience with Manuel and his guides. Very knowledgeable and gets you to the entrance with no problems. Trails are fully accessible for strollers and mobility devices. Highly recommend.
it was our last day in manuel antonio/costa rica and i still hadn’t seen a sloth (part of my bucket list). and it happened to be a monday – when all national parks are closed in costa rica! so i booked this tour, held on a private property. the guide was knowledgeable and took us up to the punta quepos peak. it was B E A U T I F U L. i would definitely recommend and do it again!
and i was happy to cross of THREE sloth sightings during this tour! mission accomplished 🙂 since we booked on a monday, we paid the group pricing but actually ended up having a tour guide just for ourselves! so that was amazing too, because he was able to keep to our pace (i.e. stop often if we needed, etc).
Last week my two daughters, my eighty-seven year-old father, and I took a tour of Manuel Antonio Park with Manuel. Although I had not found anything on the park’s website that described wheelchair access, Manuel made the arrangements and we had a terrific day. I wheel my father along a boardwalk as Manuel spotted wildlife and kept my two daughters (in their twenties) very entertained. We saw three sloths, a crocodile, lots of capuchin monkeys, and many great birds. Manuel demonstrated clear passion for his work, his country, and the beautiful nature and wildlife he shares with others!
I booked a night tour with Manuel for me and my three boys (11-9-7 years old) and the kids (and I) loved it! Excellent guide, not even in the forest and we had already seen many animals! Super patient with the boys and taught them a few spotting tricks so they were pretty happy! Very satisfied!
Our family was lucky to meet Manuel and another couple just before they started a tour of Manuel Antonio National park. We have 2 daughters, ages 6 and 10 and it was quickly evident that Manuel was not only an experienced guide but also good with children. He was very patient and adjusted his telescope quickly to make sure our children always saw the many animals and insects he found during our walk. He even helped us take amazing pictures of the wildlife with our phones through his telescope. The tour was filled with educational information about each of the species we encountered. After our tour ended, we spent time on the beach. Walking back through the park without Manuel , we realized how much we would have missed (almost everything) had in not been for Manuel. Thank you for an enjoyable tour for our whole family!
Manuel was FANTASTIC during his tour on May 23rd. On top of all the awesome things he showed us with his binoculars, he knew how to take fantastic photos. He never made us feel rushed or pressured to keep moving. As stated already AWESOMELY FANTASTIC AMAZING TOUR.
We took 2 tours with Manuel, one in the park during the day and another at night in another reserve. He showed us so many things we never would have seen without him,and told us everything you could want to know about it. Not only was he full of information on everything around us, he was just an all around great guy. He shared amazing stories about his personal experiences and kept us laughing the whole time. Also, he was able to take absolutely amazing pictures through his scope with your phone, I mean they looked like professional photography. If you are ever in this area and want the best tour available, get Manuel, you will be more than satisfied. He was the best guide I’ve ever had, if I could give him better than excellent I would.
On Jan 2, 2016, my group of 4 adults spent 6 hours with Manuel. We were on a cruise and had just one day. We all wished we could have spent more days with him. He’s that good.
He arranged to have a driver meet us at the port (Puentarenas) and drive us in an air conditioned van south about 50 minutes to Carara National Park where he was waiting for us. (Manuel is from from Quepos which is south of Carara so there was no point in his going all the way to Puntarenas; we more or less met him halfway at Carara.)
Due to logistic nightmares getting all the cruise passengers through immigration at the port, my group was late leaving with the driver and our touring schedule was thrown off a bit. We had planned to do Jose’s Crocodile tour as well as some hiking/wildlife viewing in Carara, and would not have been able to do both without Manuel.
He had connections at Jose’s who on the spur on the moment agreed to provide us a standard 2 hour tour which turned out to be just the 4 of us, plus Manuel plus the boat driver, who like Manuel had a very keen eye for spotting wildlife. We had a great time and highly recommend that tour as well. Lots of birds and crocs, so lots of photo ops.
We then skipped lunch and headed back to Carara (maybe 15 minutes away). Manuel really shined here. He has the ability to hear and spot the wildlife, take the large birding scope with tripod off his shoulder, and then train it on the wildlife for everyone to see. How he can see the birds and other creatures and put the scope on them so fast is beyond me.
Be sure and take your cell phones because his top of the line scope is so good (a $7,000 piece of equipment) that the pictures he can take putting your phone up to his scope is likely to be better, much better, than what you can get with your camera, even if you have good stuff. I’m a photo enthusiast and had fairly nice gear (Sony a77II + 16-300 Tamron), but my pics probably aren’t as clear and sharp as the ones Manuel took with my iPhone 6s.
We saw monkeys, a deer, and lots of birds. I was especially hoping to see a Toucan and just when I thought we would be shut out, Manuel somehow spotted one in a tree posing for us. Got some great shots of the Toucan and other wildlife via his scope, as well as with my camera.
His price was very reasonable; he speaks great English; is certified; is very friendly, flexible and personable; and is very knowledgeable on all the wildlife. I’d hire him again, in a heartbeat.
As a long time resident, I visit the park several times a year to enjoy the beaches. Occasionally I see some mammals and birds. On a tour with Manuel recently we saw 22 species of animals in under two hours! We were doing some investigation for a science fair project, and Manuel was able to answer every question, and really place things into the big picture of the park as an ecosystem. He spotted things that were so incredibly well camouflaged, we never would have spotted them on our own. As a concierge, I set up groups with guides all of the time, and have learned to trust just a few of the local guides as true experts, always offering 100% guest satisfaction. Manuel is one of the very best, and would recommend him to anyone interested in learning about this slice of paradise and all of it’s native species.
My wife and I booked a half day tour in the afternoon with Manuel to check out Manuel Antonio wildlife. Manual exceeded our expectations. He had bottled water for us as well as our park admission passes waiting for us when we arrived. He also invested in a high quality spotting scope which enhanced the experience by 10 times. Manuel spotted so many animals that we would have never seen on our own. What made it better was his spotting scope.
Not only were we able to see the animals in the scope up close but MANUAL WAS ABLE TO TAKE PICTURES FROM MY IPHONE THROUGH HIS SCOPE and the results were NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PICTURES AND VIDEOS!!
