LEARN ABOUT ESQUIPULAS AND THE RARE SPECIES THERE
Esquipulas is a small country town located 35-45min East of Manuel Antonio, located in the foothills of the Central Pacific, at approx 380 meters above sea level and with an excellent number of endemic species found only in the Southeast of Costa Rica and Western Panama.
El Rey is located roughly 10km south of Quepos, the rice fields and marshy conditions plus the location of the place between large oil-palm plantations makes El Rey an important stop site for many migrant birds during both northern and southern migrations.
It is excellent for the typical waterbirds including herons and egrets, storks and roseate spoonbills, kingfishers but also other species associated to the habitat, including scrub greenlet, seedeaters, blue-ground dove, some hawks, and warblers.
GET THE FULL EXPERIENCE BY DOWNLOADING OUR RECOMMENDED APPS!
Here at Manuel’s Tours, we are just as passionate about staying current as we are about giving you the best experience possible! That’s why we recommend that you download the following apps onto your phone before attending a birding tour.
We use these tools to identify birds by their physical appearance as well as their calls! Having them is a great way to learn more about the animals before, during, and after the tour. At the end of the tour, your tour guide will send you a list of the birds that we saw on the tour.

Manuel is so knowledgeable. He will answer any questions you have, and even if you don't have questions, you'll walk away with a ton of knowledge about the park, the species, migration of the birds, etc. I truly believe we have pictures of animals/insects that few people come out of the park with. And that is because Manuel is so good at what he does.Read more
